I know

by jennifer leigh   Sep 5, 2008

I never meant to hurt you
If I could, all this I would undo
It was just a joke; not meant to go this far
This joke was never made to break your heart

I know now that you probably hate me
So I'm writing this for you to see
I just shouldve trusted my hunch
I really did say NO more than once

He promised he would never tell
But no instead he told the world
I never meant to let it go this far
I really do love you with all my heart

I know this poem probably wont fix this
But really its true; its you I miss
If I could rewind time
Id follow the right signs

So then we could avoid this heartbreak
And not see a girl come between two mates
Not see the girl lose her boy
All because she took his friend as a toy

So now this poem comes to an end
I guess off to you; this I send
What I said before, its all true
Im truly sorry and I do love you

Well, we all make mistakes in life. I know that all too well. So kudos to you for taking the initiative to write something very soul-searching in a mature and humble way. I also like the way you've managed to be quite concise about the topics of trust and love (and betrayal, of course) without littering it with self-loathing and the judgment of third parties.

I hope things turn out okay. And I hope this poem steers things to that okay.

I agree the ending was a piece of brilliance.

The emotional value of this poem mad eit more appealing to the reader but I believe a poem can only truly be understood and appreciated by the author/poet.
I cna take in it's flaws and it's perfections and tell you all that's wrong with it to ME. But that is SO wrong...
    Poetry is about self.
    Self expression and personal interpretation.

    You have captured this.

    Thanks for the read
    :)
