The Tempo Of A Broken Heart

by Ray Smallshaw   Sep 9, 2008

The tempo of a broken heart,

Is like an unaccented muffled drum beat,

Almost soundless yet through it deafening,

Almost incessant, yet rumbling,

Like your empty love hungry heart,

Retched in its lonely toneless numbness,

Knowing you are forsaken,

Knowing she is with somebody other than you,

Knowing you are loveless and discarded.

    I really enjoyed this poem.
I could feel the broken heart as a melancholic melody of some sort. It was relatable. The perfect line: Almost soundless yet through it deafening,
the oxymoron was just flawless. You are a great poet.
    i really enjoy your writing.
