Cancer

by MyxPeacefulxChaos   Sep 14, 2008

Watching as you slowly died,
Seeing cancer take your life,
I wondered if our god was real,
How could he put you through such strife?

You told me you were sad to go,
But knew it was your time to leave.
Assured me that life would go on,
That after death you wouldn't cease.

You said the pain it wouldn't last,
Said that it would go away,
Told me time would fade the hurt,
I wouldn't always feel this way.

But every breath is still as hard,
And every step still hurts to take.
The tears they still fall freely now,
The loss of you is still too great.

*My grandmother and my great-great grandmother both died from cancer a few months ago. They told me no matter what happened, I'll eventually cope with the pain, but it still hurts knowing they're gone.
