At First Sight

by Jemma   Sep 22, 2008

And my thoughts cross countries
To where the talk is so strange
And hard to understand
And so instead of listening to words
I listen to their smiles
And hope I got it right
After all I would ask the same thing of them
Listen not to my words
But to my heart

I know my mind's been a messy business of late
And I know my words get twisted and my smiles sometimes fade
But I wouldn't want you to think
That my thoughts don't cross the hilly terrain
The gap between us is not silence
Only a few hundred miles of empty air

No explanation for the way that I feel
So don't listen to my words, listen to my heart.

Such a spontaneous craving
For unknown conversation
Such a strange phenomenon
To need something I don't recognise
Barely even aware that it was evading me

I saw you in the shadows
And then we all tiptoed into the light
A thousand candles flaring in the eyes
Such a shame it was so blinding

Eyes locked in eyes
A maze so bewildering
And yet I fear how it would feel
To be cast out into the void
After all that's what stands between us

How can I breathe when the air is dead and dull?
There's no song in the silence
But that doesn't stand between us but behind us

My thoughts keep falling
Having no balance in this unfamiliar ground
I simply can't find my footing
I'm so caught up thinking about an abstract feeling
That I've never truly heard or felt I hardly dare to look again
But then I realise I'm still staring
