September sky

by resisting reason   Sep 23, 2008

The tree line is the background
Just a silhouette against the September sky

The sun has set
But the horizon still glows
It's a soft kind of color
Similar to an autumn rose

And just like the rose
The sky's color fades
The pedals wilt and shrivel
As the sky goes away

Then the stars come
To shine and shimmer
In the hearts of both
Saints and sinners

As we gaze at the cosmos
And the heaven where angels reside
Nothing seems to matter
under the September sky

Because even though we feel small
Calm and unafraid
The sun will rise again
And begin another day

So we can live our lives
Waiting for the stars
To come back out
And steal our hearts

Gazing at the September sky
Hoping we go there when we die
