Butterfly Wings

by StandStill   Sep 24, 2008

Welcome to the world
of butterfly wings.
A place where September is tied
in pretty bows and some strings.

You pluck at the knot
but it won't come loose.
Your lessons unravel
and suddenly you're the stooge.

The sunset is lovely
'neath the clouds heavy with rain.
Rain brings on loneliness,
loneliness and pain.

It's pulsing through your bloodstream,
your heart and your mind.
Lose them to the grey day,
forget the sunshine.

Clear crystal tears
trickle down your face.
They bead with the sweat
and fall all over the place.

One sweet little drop,
just like the rain,
Comes crashing down,
echoing pain.

Shatters the wing,
just a dead butterfly.
Did you forget, darling,
that all sweet things die?

Tears mixed with charcoal,
they fall with the sun.
Poem is dead,
darling, it's done.
