She's Like Death (1989)

(Lyrics)

She's like death:
Cold to the touch,
Pale and still,
With pain in her eyes.
She's like death:
Mysterious.
Dark and silent,
With pain on her face.

In her sleep she seems to be part of a dream,
And when she wakes you see the hurt is there.
You don't see her move, you can't hear her scream.
She's the dream I hold, but she lives a nightmare.
She's like death.

In her mind,
She is strong,
Deceiving by
Her frail frame.

Her world is one which is never ours.
Shows no emotions, yet lives in fear.
Frightened of what passes these hours,
And she sheds no tears, sheds tears, no tears.
She's like death.

She's like death.
Poetry in motion.
Dream in reality:
She's like death.

Note: These were lyrics I wrote originally in 1989 which were changed slightly when I reworked them with a band I worked briefly with in 1991. The original lyrics no longer exist, but I found these jotted down in an old notepad today (Oct 15, '09) that had lyrics I wrote between 1991 and 1994. As I recall the major differences were structure (to suit Simon's music) rather than content. And yes, I still remember her.

What an interesting write!, very dark, mysterious and captivating. I really like how you decribe the girl in the first stanza, and the way she feels in the second last one. Lovely write and what's so interesting is that it's a poem you wrote quite a while back. That girl must have made quite an impression!

    5/5
