A Poem For Summer

by StandStill   Oct 26, 2008

It snowed outside today
and I forgot what summer was.
It's hard to remember ice cream cones
while you listen to the heater buzz.

The sky looks sorta heavy,
close enough to touch the ground
and it's blanketing the memories
of life and lights and sound.

Snap shots of everything we did,
once upon a time in July past,
they've all become a reel of film
that plays behind the TV's glass.

Lemonade removed from tongue,
far away are the cicada nights
where everything was heavy and warm
and everywhere was light.

What happened to our symphony?
The one with bottle rocket hand grenades?
Up in smoke and up in snow,
forgetting all the plans we've made.

It snowed outside my window,
and now summer's gone far away.
Blue sky now forgotten,
swallowed by oppressive grey.

I liked your choice of the words you used here. Very nice. very peaceful to me. It was not too long or too short - just right. some poems drag on forever - a few of mine have I'm sure. This one though made the grade in my book. very good - I'll be looking forward to more.
