Breathe

by StandStill   Nov 23, 2008

I'm embarrassed. I have to say, I really am. I love listening. And that isn't what embarrasses me, it's what I love listening to. I love listening to people breathe...it's the deepest, simplest, most perfect form of self expression that God has ever revealed.

Last night, I slept on the couch and I listened to the person next to me breathe. All night. I counted every breath, every inhale and exhale. Hundreds of them. There is a world between the two, in that moment of silence. The universe holds its breathe and something is born, or something dies, and I'm not quite sure which. Is there even really a difference? You are born dying.

In every blink of silence, I thought of you. I really did. I didn't want to, but you fill the silence for me. I realized last night, I really am tired. Tired to my head, to my toes, to my soul.

I think all I really need is to hear you breathe.
