The Burning of Denver

by Josh   Dec 21, 2008

Can you feel my heart beating against your chest,
While wrinkles form on your Sunday dress,
Divide these continental lines,
Separate the sour grapes from the vine,

Stand your ground and stare,
Or just act like you're impaired,
A different note a different key,
The hole in the apple leads to a dream,

An alternate ventricle,
An unwelcome emptiness,
An unplanned doctrine in vane,
Under sunny skies awaiting the rain,

So what can I get out of this,
Cellophane TV screens phase lost arrogance,
Can I assume there's a better way out of this,
Learning the pain of penitence, slipping away the eloquence,

Pay the rent and hold,
Off on everything you know,
I'll be there in the morning,
By tomorrow we'll be soaring,

Celebrate the new year,
In the eye of the atmosphere,
The smell of sex and kerosene
Will sing us off to sleep,

Celebrate the burning of Denver,
With black paint under your nails,
Dry the hair spray in the embers,
You've never looked so good so pale,
Let's toast our glasses with good champagne,
From the other apartment building,
Look at the massive hole they're drilling,

We're not listening anymore,
I left my keys at your door,
Are you feeling kind of funny or feeling sick?
Are you feeling kind of out of it?
I'll be with you until the end of the age,
Or until we stop eating fish,

3 days ago I saw the birth of the sun,
3 days ago I saw the birth of the sun,
3 days ago I saw the death of someone,
3 days ago I saw the rebirth of no one,
