The pain by your hands
Chiseled in like engraved thoughts
If your tears are my masterpiece
My tears must be easily forgot

Slowly recognition came
From those words you choked out
Gagging before I could even think
I don't remember what I thought

If your tears are my masterpiece
My pain must be easily forgot
I'd try endlessly for your smile
Even if the effort got me naught

Downcast gaze
I'll set my eyes to see nothing
Downcast gaze
I abandon all, in hope of something

What of the love I gave you
Was that simply amateur work?
Knowing all the joy that brought us
Why'd my masterpiece bring only hurt

It seems I've never improved my skill
My masterpiece was so long ago
I move forward and backward
I've found nothing worse to show

I recognize the pain you caused me
While blinded by the pain you received
I wonder what your masterpiece was
As mine, you've been freed

Can you be upset with a masterpiece,
When you are the one who made it real?
I simply want to reassure its canvas,
That towards it, I have only tenderness to feel

Call it my masterpiece,
But I wish it was never made
I hope when it dies out its gone forever
Leaving no evidence, no ill shade

If your tears are my masterpiece
What was your masterpiece?
