No Life Jackets (true story)

by haunted   Jan 20, 2009

Giving people everything you have and
Trying to be perfect can turn into a
Huge disaster when
No one's there to pull you through the waters.

Swimming together with the waves of balance can be fun.
Pushing your arms and legs through the deep ocean, but ...
What if you can't swim -- not even float -- on water?
With no hope of living, just trying to breathe through this ocean of pain.

Screaming out the names of the people you love,
Begging for someone to save you but
Everyone's gone, already out of the waters, and back to the warmth of the world.
Now you're drowning, choking and crying with betrayal and agony.

Promises are almost never kept,
No matter how often they keep saying their lies.
Change often occurs in everyone's lives,
As time evolves, your heart eventually breaks.

No air, just water and the life in it.
Impossible, you cry as fear takes over.
With a grip as tight as iron,
Making you so weak, you finally give in.

It takes a while to understand what's happening,
To fully realize what it all means.
But at the bottom of the ocean, here I still lay,
Still waiting for the life jackets that never came.

Learning how to swim through this isn't easy,
When no one's there beside you.
Everything engulfs your soul,
And it finally kills you when you have nothing left.
