An Angel Reaching For The Sky

by xToBeWithYoux   Mar 8, 2009

A hand above the water.
An angel reaching for the sky.
Is it raining in heaven?
Do you want us to cry?

Brook bubbling past our place,
this point of hope, point of grace.
Remembering, where you were laid to rest,
the beauty you held, you were the best.
Oh, my child, my only daughter,
I wish things could be as they were,
before your life was suddenly taken.
I still say the angels were mistaken.
Reaching for you, my daughter:
A hand above the water.

We shared love only God knew,
heavenly spirits guarded you.
Blessed with wisdom and beauty,
caring for you was never a duty.
I lay here, whispering a sigh,
ageing silently as time goes by.
Watching you grow filled me with pride,
but now I'm hollow, empty inside.
It feels like you're still close by:
An angel reaching for the sky.

Did you know your father died?
There's a lonely space at my side.
I think of you two, up above,
wondering if I could still love.
You know that cottage down in Devon?
I bought that back in 2007.
I guess I should have talked to you more,
maybe I was afraid, scared before.
There's a black cloud over this woman:
Is it raining in heaven?

I know this now, I understand,
now that there's no one to hold this hand.
I braved the darkness, made a friend,
so hopefully this isn't the end.
I'm sorry I forgot. No, that's a lie.
I'm sorry I was too scared to say good-bye.
I love you, daughter, and I always will,
lying with you at the brook, I grow still.
A final tear escapes my eye:
Do you want us to cry?
