Were we ever so young?

by BEHROZE K PATEL   May 15, 2009

Curtains flutter as soft breeze blows it gently
And as the hour grows late buzz of the traffic fades

A sigh escapes from my lips at the end of another day
Everyone has gone to bed and only one wake is me

Sitting quietly in my favorite chair on my balcony
With feet stretched out and eyes closed I relax

As the aching pain in the shoulder blade dulls
The screeching sound of a gang of bikes disturbs my peace

Mumbling a few colorful phases under my breath
I stumble to my feet just in time to watch the lot zoom by

As I stood there against the rail watching the now empty streets
A reluctant tired smile crept up onto my lips

They were just kids young and restless
All excited to find out what life had in stored for them

A pair of hands slipped around my waist
As a pair of lips kissed my bent neck

My hubby dear holding me close asked
“Were we ever so young?”

I just grinned at him and pointed at the picture on the mantle
There we were on his Yamaha bike just outside my parent porch
