Mattie and flowers

" He loves me..He loves me not..He loves me..He loves me naa.."

The little girl throws her pretty flower down convinced it's the only truth. She had picked only one flower today and she knew just from that last petal everything that she ever would need. Boys just didn't like her so her world was doomed. Mattie was going to die an old widow she just felt it deep down somewhere. Even when ma told her she would have all the boys chasing after her one day, Mattie was still bent on a flower petal. The saddest part was that out of a whole field of pretty flowers she had only plucked the petals of one.

Mattie saw things very differently from then on. She saw a playground with a bunch of mean boys she had to beat up. She saw a tire swing that only she could swing on and she saw trees that could only shade herself. So from there she became the independent one. Mattie would not be weak. Mattie would never have anyone see her shed a tear. Mattie wouldn't share her scars from jump rope. Or her bruises from falling down the stairs. Mattie didn't need anyone else you see..She learned from the first flower, when she pulled that last petal and they all fell to the ground.

Even though this is Mattie's story I cannot say that I necessarily agree with her decision. Mattie you see, well.. she missed a few things while she was so caught up in this single flower. Things that all of us will come to understand. No matter who you are or where you've been. Each and every Mattie in this world cannot see the bigger field of flowers yet. That is because all the Mattie's haven't made it there yet. After all , Mattie's flower that got her in this fix was only the first flower. You have to wonder eventually why she never did bother to go on to another flower. Why did Mattie stop at that first flower and make her bed there? Mattie was stubborn if you really knew her personally. She kept her mind on that one flower for years after years. So Mattie never did leave that field of flowers.

Until the day came where she had to. You see a drought came to Mattie and her Ma's field one day and they had no choice but to leave their home. Mattie didn't want to let go of course but she just had to. So as they traveled Mattie saw many things and learned alot about the fields. However, the more they walked the more the field changed. The day came that they had found the place they would settle at. The place they decided to start things all over.

And That is when it dawned on Mattie.

" Why Ma this is the most beautiful field of flowers I have ever seen! Well actually Ma if you look at our garden here..Back home we only had a field of weeds!"
