I Just Am

by Laila Ali   Aug 5, 2009

I am not wicked nor am I cruel.
I do not follow nor do I rule.
I am not bold nor am I brave.
I cannot be captured. I cannot be saved.
I cannot teach. I cannot learn.
I cannot be beaten. I cannot be burned.
I cannot hurt nor can I heal.
I am nothing. I am not real.

I am the water, the fire, the wind, the earth.
I am every woman giving birth.
I am the rainfalls and the snowstorms.
I am the whirlwinds and the sun's warmth.
I am every war fought by men.
I am every soldier too weak to defend.
I am the strength and will to survive.
I am everything. I am alive.

When I move, the earth shakes.
When I am angry, fire breaks.
When I cry, water from the skies fall.
When I yell, the wind answers my call.

When I am in need, no one is near me.
When I talk, no one can hear me.
When I am true, I am always accused.
When I love, I am always refused.

I am not from heaven, I am not from hell.
I do not think I am better than everyone else.
I do not know what I want nor where I stand,
But I know I am neither alive nor dead.
I Just Am.
