Grandpa

You're so far away that I can't reach
Walls so high I still try to breach
I'm laying underneath the stars while the world spins around
And all I want to know is, when are you coming back down?

I can see the sunshine on your face
As time runs out, I hate this place
I try to close my shell shocked eyes
You left me with a dark surprise

Tears running down my pale cheek
I'd give anything to hear you speak
Oh how I miss you when I breathe
You just couldn't wait to leave

You're so far away as I close my eyes
No chance for any heartfelt goodbyes
There's no stars in the sky tonight
My heart aches with the fading light

I wonder where you could be
Or if you even think of me
Somewhere in that dark blue sky
A man I know is sad to fly

Just know I can hear your beating heart
Even though we're now worlds apart
If you could only hear me too
I ache to say, I love you

    This poem was written sobeautifully and shows how much you grandad means to you. It brought a tear to my eye because I've recently found out my grandads got cancer and none of us know how long he has left. It's never easy losing someone we are close to. Such a wonderful dedication, 5/5. Em x

    A hearfelt poem, Katie...I feel for you, because I lost all my grandparents due to health reasons a long time ago already and would have given anything to be able to talk to them one more time!

    Amazing job, but so sorry you had to go through this. Losing family is always hard, but you can get through it. I love how it flows. Just remember, he can hear you say i love you. everytime it rains, he is crying because he misses you too

    This is wonderful but so sad. he knows how much you loved him though even though he is far away you always ahve his memories until you see him again just cling on to what he left for you.
