She Closes Her Eye's

She closes her eye's
and her mind floats back to that time
when they were together
when she knew she'd be fine

she still remembers that sweet kiss of innocence
how he didn't know what to do
and the question in his eye's
like is this real and true?

she knew that it would come.
the call to be free
she knew that it would hurt him
it hurt so much to see

she knew her words would kill him
that he would cover it up
she told him I'm so sorry
his only reply was yup

he promised he would be her friend
she knew it couldn't be
but she couldn't bare to lose him
so she whispered 'always you and me'

now everything has changed
they barely talk at all
she wishes she could take it back
that she could tell him about the fall

you see she realized back then
that she was falling in love
it was almost amazing
like a gift from above

how horrifying
if it never worked out
what if it went to far
and they started to scream and shout.

she thought it for the best
that she not lose her best friend
but how to tell him that?
instead she went back to her ex

she never got to tell him
she never slept with the guy
but so alone she felt
living in her own lies.

she opens her eye's
and sees him sleeping on the floor
her eye's fill with tears
he'll never know it's him she adores

she tells him he's pushing
when he gets that look in his eye's
the promise of the world
if only she'll just try

lately she's been thinking
of how he sticks around
even when she says mean things
he doesn't make a sound

still though she wonders
if it would ever work
her history doesn't look good
she's been with a lot of jerks

her shield is slowly breaking
the mask she wears turning to dust
she's not sure if she should trust it
a part of her feels that she must.

still she has to wait and see
if he even wants her back
all the pain she put him through
it always seemed like a personal attack.

so always she sits here and closes her eye's
willing her mind to wander
back to that time...
