Another Tool in the Shed

by Kurt   Oct 3, 2009

Deep within the yard rests a shed
Tools strewn about after each use
Stout iron tainted with rust it bled
Handles polished with years of abuse

To each tool a duty
To each tool a past
Maintaining the yard's beauty
With precision unsurpassed

Arduously working everyday
Satisfying the garden's every need
Daily struggles reversing floral decay
Permanent vanquishing loathsome weed

Biding time until called upon again
Internal rotting wrecks the tool
Secretly suffering jealous pain
Being played as just another fool

Desperately waiting in the ranks
Never the forefront of your mind
Simple target of continuous pranks
Mentally unstable and now maligned

Tricked by the ploy's of your clever game
You invaded and perverted my head
Overwhelmed and crushed with my shame
I'm just another tool in your shed.

Wow. I got so absorbed in the functions of tools and how they make humans unique to other species, I did not see your comparison between tools and humans coming. Great way to introduce a subject and give it life then transform it into a representation of how people are often treated... USED, to be specific. So much about friendships these days is superficial - people think, "Hm, how can this person benefit me? What are they good for? How can I use them?" It's too bad.
This is personification at its finest. Again, awesome word choices and way to use them accurately! You've got talent, that's for sure.

Very well done. It's really interesting on your choice of a metaphor. comparing a woman to grass and that all the men that she toys with are just her tools.

I must say that it really comes though and I really enjoyed it. Really well done and I thought that the poem had a good flow.

    5/5

Thanks for your comment on my poem.

A very interesting analogy for being used. it seems to work well and helps to fully understand how you feel. you did a good job with this.
