Please don't do this

by Cori   Oct 11, 2009

Please, hold on to me,
Before I drift away.
Say the words you think,
Before I leave you with nothing to say.

Please, keep me in your heart,
Before there is no one to take my place.
Look me in the eye,
Before you miss my face.

Please, see what you've done,
Before you can't turn around.
Speak up now,
Before you can't make a sound.

You're letting go,
I feel it within me.
Don't forget me,
Open your eyes and see.

Its hard to start over,
But maybe we don't have to go that far.
We could find something else,
Before I get into this car.

But, I can't choose for you,
I never could make you understand.
You stare at me now,
As if you didn't have this planned.

I tried to tell you,
That one day you'd be alone.
But you just didn't see,
And now I'm fully grown.

Just because you are my father,
Doesn't mean you get a free card.
Love does come cheap,
Think about that as you're pulling out the shard.

Maybe we'll meet again one day,
When you're no longer blind.
But I can't guarantee,
You may never enter my mind.

Believe me when I say this,
I never meant for this to end.
But you were in you own world,
And I just couldn't blend.

I love you now,
And I'll love you then.
But just remember,
I won't let this happen again.

Time was limited,
even from the start.
Just to let you know,
That's what keeps us apart.
