You Took Away My Sad Sunsets

You Took Away My Sad Sunsets by Ray Smallshaw

I was so sad as a part of my life where I had shared joy and love had past,

Ahead of me all I could see was what I had left behind and I wanted it back,

Life very rarely gives you back what you have lost as bridges collapse and no return is possible,

Like a fool I waited for you and you never came so I was left in darkness and pain,

Then bleak years clouded me and dawn did not appear only sad sunrises and the following dark sunsets,

I was smothered by my lost love and I died waiting for a rebirth that did not come,

A chance wedding and the honeymoon of our child now grown that did not have sad sunsets,

Held in a faraway place I had last trod in my youth and it was there I found my new sunrise and my sad sunsets disappeared,

You shattered my darkness, took away my bleakness and allowed me to breath again,

Now everyday my life has a new sunrise and my sunsets are filled with the joy of the Love I share with you,

As You have taken away my sad sunsets.

I really enjoyed this piece as, it was well written and held a lot of imagery and love. Sometimes when things are at their worst we just have to keep our hope and believe one day it'll all get better. Without defeat we cannot appreciate victory and without darkness we cannot appreciate the light. Great job 5/5 GG23
