Come home soon (war)

by damont   Oct 29, 2009

A husband sent off to war
fighting for his country
couldn't have helped more
he had a sword at his side
it was his joy and pride
he slashed his enemies down
taking glory as his crown
he wrote to his wife each day
saying i killed another man today
the battlefield driving me insane
he filled a pen with their blood
from the fallen he had slain
and sent the letters written
as proof he was going insane
his wife took a stand
and made just one demand
by sending one letter
to the president
the paper seeped of blood
and with one touch
he could see the dirt and mud
it seemed as if he was their at war
the president sent a letter back
and her husband returned back
he entered a mental ward
to regain his sanity back
the moral of the poem
the pen is mightier then the sword

I thought this was an okay piece. A lot of what you said seems like it has been said before. I would have liked to have seen some more original lines and maybe a more creative topic. I think you can do a lot better than this. Maybe if you dropped the last line and thought of something stronger and something different that it would make the poem more powerful for me. War and people fighting is very commom now and I think you forgot that. You have to take this concept and make it your own or people won't want to read or will lose intrest. So keep that in mind when you write your next piece. Step outside the norm and show us you. Nik
