Reflection

by PassionCourageTriumph   Dec 2, 2009

Who is that person?
Staring at me through my reflection
I swear I have seen them before
It feels like I pass them
Every day on the street
Without realizing they are actually there

Seeing the face
I can't seem to put a name to it
I perceive the agony beneath her skin
Yet she smiles
A smile so bright
Still, it doesn't touch those eyes

The reflection fades
Burning bitter words
Flames of frost
Engulfing the thoughts
That once filled her being
Blank chaos overcomes consciousness

I vigorously seek
For the reflection once again
I must see what becomes
Of this girl so familiar
So strange
So sad

Another image appears
Once more it's the girl
However she seems father away
I gaze into the eyes
I can feel the light
The absolute joy

Reaching out
I grasp at her
Hoping she will share what makes her so bright
I can't quite reach
She seems so distant
Like a fond memory

Finally I come to my senses
Both girls are me
Tears begin to spill
What have I become?
I used to be so full of life
Now overcome by agony and grief
My reflection shows the new version of a not so special me
