His Dance of Love

by Poet on the Piano   Dec 22, 2009

Danny was a God-sent angel,
and though he did give into temptations,
he had a remorseful and willing soul
that practiced restitution.

He was my only guardian,
my listening counselor,
my light on the darkest days,
my protector from worldly evils,
my absolute everything.

I remember, like a dream,
how he would dance with me
under the watchful moonlight.
Our country-side porch
provided a sturdy floor,
while the sparkling moon
acted as a disco ball.

I would wear my rippled
ocean-blue dress, saved for this occasion.
He had woven it for me,
like an invitation into his world.

On January 1st, we heartily celebrated
the coming of the new and worthy Year,
and Danny taught me the Winter Waltz.
He told me to pretend that we were snowflakes,
falling unto the frozen ground,
with a graceful twist and turn.

I never grew cold that night,
though twilight winds howled.
He kept me close to his heart,
warming my own with his love.

I never got the chance to say
what was really on my mind.
He left us in a traumatizing way,
yet his calm face still stood
as a complete stranger took his life,
with nothing more than his own hands.

I had tried to save him, but with no luck,
Danny was not one for violence and refused
to even protect himself from death.

His peaceful essence will always linger in the heart of my soul.

This is based on a book I am writing called "Catching Faith". Faith is the main girl in this story and basically this poem describes her past life, and the death of Danny leads her to her own more or less.
They had a special connection, and were not a couple but brother and sister. The love he gave to her changed her ways and who she was, making her a forgiving and more generous person.
When I wrote this, I have never felt the feeling more real and to be honest, have never gotten so much out of this piece by writing and reading it. It has a lot of meaning to me, as the characters in my view are real.
I hope you have enjoyed this write and gotten something out of it too, maybe memories or special thoughts.
Thank you for your time in reading.

This was something entirely different from your previous writes & it was interesting to see it put into action in 1st person. I did not know you were writing a book but this poem makes the book even more interesting & makes me want to read it. Wish you all the best with it.

When your book comes out, I'm buying it. :) I love this poem mainly because it's different. Danny just died, and there was nothing anyone could do. It's simply touching, inspirational and amazing. It's obvious you have great talent! Good luck with your book. Can't wait to read it :)
