The Soldiers Choice

by Ray Smallshaw   Feb 11, 2010

He lifted his rifle then took aim and in those microseconds before he pulled his rifles trigger, for the first time since he became a soldier he questioned what he was doing.

The thought hovered in his mind for those microseconds his memory's answer was simple, 'You are a soldier this is what you do, you protect and fight for your Countries goals and rights',

You do not need an explanation you are doing your duty as ordered and his finger pulled the trigger of his rifle and one more human being died the threat he posed removed forever.

It is right as soldiers we do not decide wether we kill or not because it is our job. WE are killing machines, trained to take away life.

Okay. This was small, so the comment won't be massive, like usual.

I LOVED the idea of this poem. I liked the fact that it was a prose and not a nasty, forced rhyming piece I saw all too much.

The ONLY problem I had with this poem was the fact that it was cut so short; I felt you didn't complete it - there could have been more. You should always remember, when writing, to 'end with a catchy phrase' that captures the whole poem in a sentence or paragraph, to sum it up.

However, besides the ending, I really liked it.
Congrats, that's hard to do. :]
