What We Do

by Stephanie   Apr 23, 2010

Broad open spaces flow before us,
As we breathe in desperation,
In, out, in, out.
Dazing upon the days of swing sets,
And playing in the rain and dirt.
These days are in our growing hearts,
In the back of our minds,
And we wish, oh, how we wish -
Just one more second, one more,
Of that heaven.
Now we face another world;
A world full of panic and choice.
We force each breath,
and cry to achieve our hope.
Waving hands at the people we love,
as we drive to our new destination.
Leaving our past, arriving at the present,
looking towards the future,
Yet, still smiling at our memories,
each and every beautiful one.

This is called growing up,
And this is what WE do.

Such a simple poem to me, but I felt very accomplished at the end. (:
