The Angel

by Timothy   May 10, 2010

First Verse:
My life wasn't heavenly, not even close,
I hated the bills and the job, and her neediness the most;
I wanted to run wild, I wanted to be free,
But what I really wanted, was all about me.

She spent many lonely nights alone,
Just worrying and wondering, staring at the phone;
But I didn't care, and I didn't repent,
And I didn't know what my actions meant.

Chorus:
I woke up to find she wasn't in bed,
Down the hall I heard the words she said;
"God, please forgive him, I love him still",
"He doesn't mean to cheat and hit, please make him well".
"There once was a good man, where my husband stands,"
"Please, God, please, help me find that man!"
"Send us an angel, someone to save us from the night";
"Dear Lord, lead us back to the light!"

Second Verse
I was at the bar the night she could take no more,
She put on her coat and hat, and headed for the car;
Driving in a zombie-like mode,
No one witnessed, when the car left the road.

When she was found, she was clutching my picture and the Holy Word,
And as usual, my timing was totally absurd;
She had died alone, in some wet and muddy hole,
As I fell to my knees, I prayed her same prayer, for my angel's soul.

Second Chorus
I opened my eyes, and I cleared my head,
My actions betrayed her, and now my love is dead;
To the Lord, I now said,
"God, please forgive me, I love her still",
"I don't mean to cheat and hit, please make me well".
"I once was a good man, where this bad husband stands,"
"Please, God, please, help me find that man!"
"Send us an angel, someone to save us from the night";
"Dear Lord, lead us back to the light!"
