Heart On Canvas

by Poet on the Piano   Jun 2, 2010

I reminisce,
where a bland screen reveals life
curled in safe comfort.
How I yearn to touch
fragile fingers
opening and closing
with sweet innocence.
It is too late to return time
and resuscitate a tiny pulse
I must accept gone means forever.
My mind was clouded then
thoughts dictated by fear,
I lost all the friends I knew
and no one could care less.
Regret still puts her death
in bold lettering,
forgiveness intangible.
I now tenderly hold
a naked portrait,
memories of her and I
should have been etched here
but they're nonexistent.
I take out various paints
clumsy but holding purpose
I don't want this emptiness.
I draw her ineffable features
as a merciful memorial,
coloring every wishful dream
in hope that won't fade away
Her presence I can only imagine.

I found this to be very real and intriguing, it spoke of sadness and loss and yet renewal. To someone who paints like myself, it held meaning, the paint to canvas can be very healing. an excellent write.

    RE the 'forgiveness' quote:
I've been corrected and that is fine...
    Whoever said it first...
be it Carl Jung or Lily Tomlin...
It still rings a big bell on the
    consciousness train...
and forgiving ourselves is, indeed, among the most complex of journeys...

    RE:

    "forgiveness intangible."

    may I suggest:

    "Forgiveness...
giving up all hope of a better past..."

This is about a woman who had an abortion, right?

Even though you are so strongly against it, you managed to write it with so much regard to this person...a really intelligent write, MaryAnne. I hope it makes young women think twice.

    God bless and a hug,

    5/5 Ingrid
