Dear Lord

by Kayli   Jul 13, 2010

A baby is a precious gift that words cannot explain,
And without this one I call my own I would go insane,

He has his father's hairline, his lips, as well as nose,
But there is no mistaking where he gets his fingers and his toes,

He is the best of both of us as far as I can see,
And every time I look at him I find I pray to the,

Dear God above, please watch my boy as he begins to grow,
Protect him from the harmful things this world now has to show,

Let kindness guide him through his life and to what lies beyond,
And please dear Lord don't ever let us lose our loving bond,

He is the air I breathe and the beating of my heart,
And without this boy I feel as if my life would fall apart,

So thank you Lord for listening to what I have to say,
And I will speak to you again the next time that I pray.

Honestly the poem is pretty well done, all of the words you rhymed together atleast rhyme haha Most people who've been writing for 10 years still can't seem to figure that out. I would suggest giving your poems some structure, put them into stanzas of four lines, leave a space then start your next. Also, try not to start your lines with and/but its okay once in a while, but not so much. Also read over your poems aloud to yourself slowly and see if any lines seem longer than others. That smoothness you feel when you read something is important. Adding/subtracting certain words will make a big difference in flow. These are some basic guidelines, work on these few things and you'll notice a big difference :) Best of luck you have potential.
