Twas the Night Before Heartbreak

by Mermaids Lullaby   Dec 8, 2010

Once filled with romance
and sugar plum dreams in my head
'twas the night before heartbreak
that left me half dead

The half that's alive
calls out to walls made of steel
An emotional numbness occurs
my heart no longer shall feel

With tear stained cheeks
and a palm slid 'cross my face
I wipe distant memories away
cover silk hair with black lace

Reminiscence of our history
and your sweet musk surrounds
I've lost track of time...
Since my feet left solid ground

See when flying is mastered
you forget how to crawl
so when wings have been clipped
inevitably you will fall

Carousel dreams etched in time
rotate counterclockwise
each time you bid farewell
the tune comes as a surprise

'twas the night before heartbreak
I just can't comprehend
say you'll be back when I wake
and this is not the end

Wow, a cleverly spun tale of heartbreak. I was held by your metaphors, the images created were all too sad. When a good love goes sour, we do wish that we could turn back the clock. I honestly can't believe no one has commented on this yet. I'm honored to be the first! Brilliant work!
    Take care
