Bystander

by Nobody   Dec 21, 2010

The sounds of pitiful moans
and harsh laughter blend and blur
until there is no real distinction
between the two

The predators have found their prey
circling and circling, round and round
until they have cornered the weak
launching an attack on the poor and defenseless

I stand still, not too close yet not so far away
I silently watch their grinning faces
as blood smears the floor
and the screams have long since died

I see it, I see it all. My eyes unable
to look away, my feet unable to move
I raise my hands to...to...do nothing
they fall to my sides limp and lifeless

Satisfying their blood lust the monsters stumble away
The innocent is stripped bare
Broken and bloodied with no hope of salivation
The prey staggers away completely alone

And I still stand, I still watch.
I do not out stretch my hand
nor do I offer my shoulder to lean on
No I what did offer was silence
as I watch the tormentors silently
I watch but do not act

I the bystander let another victim fall.
