My disease

by Fahd A AlSaleh   Feb 14, 2011

A while back I was unfortunate
To have acquired a horrible disease
Since then my life completely changed
Never once been at ease

It begins in the eyes
With hallucinations and poor sight
Through the optic nerve it spreads
To the brain by its connected dendrites

The hypothalamus goes next
Your hormonal mainframe is now rewired
Palpitations, tremors, insomnia
Night terrors and just feeling tired

Then there is a drop in your mental capacity
Now all your actions are questionable
Depression, anxiety, agitation develops
And you are no longer considered stable

The disease then finally reaches the heart
Causing it to slowly deform
The cells atrophy and the fibres unwind
And is no longer strong enough to perform

I went through hundreds of textbooks
Trying to find an explanation to the above
Everything leads back to you
And my disease is called love.
