Darkened Angel

by No1ButMe   Feb 28, 2011

My eyes turn to grey
The darkness sets in
Memories all blend together
As blood drips down my skin
Angels walk among us
But I was never blessed
My wings have long turned black
From being so depressed
The edges sharp as glass
Leaving scars that no one sees
It's not just a phase
This is who I am eternally
Cursed by birth
To walk this world alone
My heart has stopped beating
Skin as cold as stone
My wings no longer fly
Broken damaged goods
There use to be a better place
In which where I once stood
My dress has completely faded
Once white now covered in dirt
Decaying into the earth
Brought down by so much hurt
No stars in my eyes
They fell from hopeless dreams
My heart is in a thousand pieces
Came apart at every seam
Can't find my smile
Lost it somewhere along the way
Withering my existence
Haven't seen the light of day
I carry my burdens on my arms
My face streaked by black
I've come to far into the darkness
There is no turning back
I am a darkened angel
Living but also dead
You can find me in the shadows
Stored deep within your head
Close your little eyes
And I'll set you free
You can only live so long
In your sadistic misery...

I really enjoyed this poem. It was really well written. It had great, simple rhymes that were so effective and free-flowing. The subject matter was put across well, too.

    There were many parts I particularly enjoyed, but here's some of my favourites;

    'Angels walk among us
    But I was never blessed
My wings have long turned black
    From being so depressed'

It flowed so well, and I also like the power, intensity and imagery in it.

The simple line of 'The edges sharp as glass' was wonderful. I can't quite pin down why I liked it so much, exactly, but it was a strong statement.

'Ive come to far into the darkness
    There is no turning back'

This was another particularly well written piece. The actual idea of going so far in the darkness you can never return to light. Felt a little like something Hades, the God of the underworld, might say.

    This was a great piece.
