Train Tracks

Single file iron roads
run through my dreams
of you. Loud and
stern straight unturned
wake me up morning
sun.

Burning against my skin
like heat to metal
I remember your
touch. Raindrops
tap the window
where my eyes
search after you.

Single file iron roads
bend and turn in my
mind. Steady like
a beating drum you
never lost rhythm...

but somehow we
lost time.

Running after stationary
while the skies
fill with smoke--
love me forever
the last line you
spoke.

Nights find me
tucked in sheets
of memories I
will never let
go of. Heart,
soul, mind, body
single file iron roads
help me follow you home.

I agree with Nano, using commas in the first stanza would have a profound effect on the feel of this poem.

    "Single file iron roads

    mind. Steady like
    a beating drum you
    never lost rhythm...

    but somehow we
    lost time."

I sense some very strong musical influence here. I like the use of never losing rhythm and losing time.

    Another good poem!
