An Angel Lost

A year has gone by, ever so quickly
since I first saw that smile
upon an angel from heaven
descended upon us
to bring warmth to our hearts
and love to our souls

I still wonder upon this day
why I had to get punished
why oh almighty, when all I did
was admire the beauty
God giveth upon thy face

Yes I was selfish
thought I could keep
a divine creation forever
no wonder He took her away
knowing well mortals and their sinful ways
Now all we can hope for is
a place amongst sinners
seeking penitence for their deeds

Footnote: I wrote this one to appreciate the love someone gave me (flowed from her eyes right to my soul) to appreciate life again, after a personal tragedy. I thought I could never appreciate love again, but for a short time I did, in her presence. Now that she is gone I struggle to again find my purpose and existence. Sometimes when people who have been abandoned by their own loved one in their time of greatest need, and salvaged by someone else, feel that love cannot ever happen to them again in this lifetime, miracles sometimes happen. This poetic tribute is paid to an angel who brought the feeling of love again to a life that survived near death, but then disappeared. I generally would not write about my sadness or sad topics, which every person experiences at one time or another. This one I initially put in the "love" category, but then a comment reminded me that it really belonged to the "sad" category.
