My Homeland

by nouriguess   Oct 26, 2011

I deplore you, my homeland.

Under your oppressed sky that
was bereaved of stars and snow,
there hovers a disease called
"hatred" which inhibits our love
for you, my homeland.

I pity your edifices that our fathers
had built, a stone by another.
that we subverted with our bare
hands for no reason, but hatred...

-since when did Arabs hold within
their hearts "hatred"?

your features, I knew by heart
your sky is choked with my prayers
millions of martyrs, we all exalted
but I became sick of iterating the history,
for it was tragically calamitous...
what did anyone achieve by wars?
I'm in a desperate need of an answer.

-we worry about dollars,
and forget who we are

we are...

silent, while children shroud
their burnt mothers,
costumed, while young girls
cuddle in their patches,
greedy, while hundreds queues
of wretches implore for food

in brief,
we are kissing the hand
that slaps us, my homeland...

You penned something real, something tragic and something that needs change. Personally I'm appalled by government in all countries, power and greed has turned them into symbols of importance that are made of stone and concern for their ppl has been bleached from their bones..As far as the poem, great flow, brilliant wording. Excellent

    We worry about dollars,

^So true, money degrades us many

I love the dedication to your homeland that I know is visible yet the poem full of hatred and omnipresent thoughts,
So many wrongs in the world, too many people brought into the wrong society, brought up in a life of crime, drama and fighting,
I honour you for writing such a piece,
    I love you

    Love always,
