The Obelisk

by Aish   Nov 6, 2011

Standing sentry over the city,
peak of strength and power;
solitary, yet surrounded by beauty.

The lights of the city,
pinpricks of white and gold;
like stars on land, glittering beneath its watchful stare.

Hear the bells chime; St Pauls,
echoing through the streets and winding lanes
to reach the hillside.

Turn and face a mirrored scene,
ocean; dark dangerous,
yet beautiful in its ferocity.

Ships line the horizon,
Visible only for their shining beams;
count them again and again.

Find yourself lost in the lights,
in the magic;
Reach a different answer every time.

Feel the wind pick up around you,
carrying your hair, your coat, your dreams;
Standing at the Obelisk.
