I am a single mother.
I do not let this title define me;
nor do I hide behind it.
I embrace it,
for everything that it's worth.
I am a single mother.

I have never felt so alone.
I know it's a cliche statement
but I can feel the ache deep in my bones.
I hide my despair behind the clever triicks of Cover Girl
but it can only mask the dark circles for so long.
I have never felt so alone.

I am trying to get my life together.
It's much harder than I ever suspected
and there are times when I am so scared,
I can't even breathe.
It's not just about me anymore.
I am trying to get my life together.

I am a single mother.
Most days I smile about it;
others break my heart.
I have no one to share his smiles with
and no one to undermine me.
I experience each milestone alone
and wipe each tear with my shirt sleeve.
I wake up each morning to hear "Mama"
and go to sleep to the rhythmic snoring of an angel.
I have my own piece of Heaven,
trapped in my own personal Hell.
I feel more agony than I let on
but there is no one to share it with because
I am a single mother.

    "I have my own piece of Heaven,

    Those lines caught my eyes. I can only imagine what you're going through. May 2012 be good for you. I know somehow, you'll make it. God bless you and your little angel.
