Hecate

by Karla   Jan 29, 2012

"Hecate teaches us that the way to the vision that inspires renewal is to be found in moving through the darkness."
Demetra George

The dogs were excited and the moon was waning
when she saw Hecate passing on one of her rounds,
casting spells across the dark night sky for those
who already know the syllables hidden in Eleusis.

She didn't know she could be bigger than people
could see from Mondays to Saturdays when
she was a simple hollywoodian hatless witch
in a blue worn-out uniform, dragging her tired broom,
serving coffee and saying in-between teeth:
"Yes, ma'am/ No, ma'am"

The mirror always insisted on revealing less
about the pleasing presence of the divine feminine dwelling in her.
Maybe her thick glasses were tyrants:
The paradigms of beauty whipped her every day
with the ideal size, age and looks.
( she had always felt as if she was a topsy turvy Gorgon)

Hecate awakened the sleeping Goddess in her,
making her stepping outside Barbie's box.
She wasn't stuck in an unknown body anymore.
She became Hecate's apprentice forever.

Roles of Hecate
Hecate performs many roles for Her followers. She represents the wise grandmother, the compassionate nurse, the sexy older sorceress, and the established matron. She is called upon for counsel, guidance, and decision making; to banish wandering ghosts from this plane; to guide the dead and admit them to the afterworld; for protection during illness and in childbirth; to help people confront their fears and face their shadows; and to preside over acts of magic and divination. She is the power behind second sight, creative insight, learned wisdom, and general divination abilities.

"...people who avoid their fears also avoid their power."

~Timothy Roderick

I thought I had commented on this but guess I just read it and lost my mind and left.

This was a gentle flow of beauty in words. It was touched with the mystical which has become your signature. It's magnificent

I think one owes you more than awesome and great and love it so much... but poetry illiterate people like me cannot say much, for I'd rather stay blown away with your words than to analyze each word there.

Each stanza stood out for me like some glorified poem. So..... I will only say, YOU, Karla, is an awesome poetess who in no time, must publish a poetry book, and I'll be the first to buy it.

Love it. Love it. Loffff it.

Oh, and I forgot. I'm so lucky to have you within this club.. you awesome Kite Runner.

    Karla -

I love the name of this poem. It took me a few moments to realise where I have heard the name before and it came to me - it was in one of my favourite movies - Pracitcal Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. It made me think of the spell they used in the end to get rid of the bad ghost.

It is great to learn more about it with the descriptive information you have included. Thanks for that!

    Awesome poem! I loved it
