My Only

by DirtRoadGirl   Feb 15, 2012

I watch the moonlight dance across the lake,
creating shadows in the trees around its perfection,
and patterns on the glass-like surface,
taking in the beauty and my own reflection.

Skipping stones across the surface,
I remember every kiss,
the touch of his skin against mine,
caught up in the romance and bliss.

With every ripple that breaks the watery mirror,
I remember every word he said,
every promise that he whispered,
and every letter that he wrote, I swear I always read.

It seems like forever ago,
that he was standing where I stand.
Teaching me to skip rocks,
in a place we deemed "our land"

I hear the hoot of an owl,
and I know it's time to go.
I take a deep breath and lift my face to the moon,
and the tears begin to flow.

"Rest in peace my heart",
I whisper to the sky.
"I love you always and miss you so,
and you'll always be my only guy"

I watch the moonlight dance across the lake,
creating shadows in the trees around its perfections,
and patterns on the glass-like surface,
taking in the beauty I remember our reflections.

-Reminiscing about what happened way back then, as you can still feel it now in your heart.
