Talk of Nothing

by Caitlin   Apr 15, 2012

Like that annoying little tingle,
As wind rushes past your ear.
Like a bad commercial jingle,
We don't want to hear.

The senseless noises made
As we go about our day,
Instantly begin to fade,
When we have something else to say.

Is all this chatter important?
In the long run, will it matter?
It's too hard to ignore it,
Words, like pots and pans, they clatter.

"In one ear and out the other"
That old expression goes.
It's what I always tend to mutter.
I don't try to propose,

A serious conversation
About politics or war,
I sense some trepidation,
These topics are a bore!

Let's gossip til we can barely breathe,
What clothes, what shoes are in?
At some point I just have to leave,
But it happens again and again.

People wasting our precious language,
And mangling our words,
I alone am filled with anguish,
When talk of nothing's always heard
