Somebody That I Used To Know

by Valerie   May 9, 2012

Let's go back in time to the year '99.
Back when we were the best of friends
Elementary, middle, junior high
And high school days have flown by.

Looking back, who would have thought
That our friendship could ever fade?
Now I see what time has done
And just how much we have strayed.

All of our school days spent together;
Not even a weekend spent apart.
How did we ever get this way?
How did our paths ever part?

From daily hangouts to yearly run-ins
Now all your free time spent with your beau.
Never thought I would say this,
But now you're just somebody that I used to know.

I will not fret, and I will not weep.
One day you will get a taste
Of what it's like to be pushed aside
Only to be forgotten and replaced.

So when people ask me about you
I will not lament or be in woe.
I will smile and say it proud,
You're just somebody that I used to know!

    I really like this. Wow!

    All of our school days spent together;
    Not even a weekend spent apart.
    How did we ever get this way?
    How did our paths ever part?

    Friends do drift apart and it is painful to know that you are drifting apart from your friend but there is nothing you can do to help it. Nice poem. :)
