In suburbia

by Larry Chamberlin   May 13, 2012

Suburbia is ...

cheering kids and parents
at the soccer game in the park
three blocks away

shade trees by the grill
breezing in my back yard
steaks sizzling while I write

my siamese cat watching
marshaling over the yard
hoping for a savory morsel

mockingbirds nervous
of the cat but singing
every bird's song they know

Dragon, blind and old
but happy in his own skin
chewing flavored rawhide

clear skies, light traffic
kids gone for the day
Rose and I comfortable

I am not numb
to the problems of the world
but today we sit on vacation
in suburbia.

    I love this!!!

The images are spectacular. I love the simple life like this. Being with family, doing family things. Watching the kids play sport. I loved watching my niece and nephew play sports it was fun and awesome. Proud moments came up from these times.

This poem is so humble and lovely. I believe that having this kind of experience just makes you lucky. I mean it's sad that not everyone can have these moments so it's great to be able to cherish them whenever you can. I mean your last stanza got me though. It's like you feel guilty for feeling this kind of happiness when there are bad things going on in the word. I love this poem for its strength and beauty.

    Awesome write
