Dear G.I. Joe

by Thomas   Jun 9, 2012

Soldiers
of all armies,
doesn't matter
whether you're army or navy.

This is a warning,
a piece of advice if you will.
Just an explanation
for the battles you fight still.

Even though they say
you defend God and country,
it's the opposite.
You're being used in their treachery.

Who are they?
They are the rich and powerful
The ones who don't care
that you die, they're not remorseful.

The enemies you see
The were created
By them
Just like the danger they invented.

So you fight ghosts
and risk your precious life
while killing others
whether with a gun or a knife.

I am not calling
for you abolishment,
just want to speak the truth
and read of your face the astonishment.

My dad as in the army during desert storm. It still messes him up at times.. this poem reminds me of his battle within himself even after the real attle was fought. He watched in of his best friends die and everytime he starts to talk about it he starts to cry.. i dint think they ever get over what they went through.

    Wonderful poem. Great imagery

From your title, when you say GI Jo for some reason toys came into mind, like those little soldiers the kids play with.

From reading your poem though it became more powerful to me, more real than just a toy. The images in this poem are strong, loved them!

My heart goes out to these soldiers
    risking their lives for what
If and when they come back
they will be never the same again
