Safe in thier Ignorance

by Ransford Rowe   Aug 29, 2012

Safe in their ignorance they go on.
Never challenging their ghetto state of mind.
No respect for education or learning.
School was boring they declare.
Who wants to be forced to learn history and arithmetic.
Rarely pausing for deep thought.
They don't seem to make the link, between education and achievement.
If you can barely write and add up then do you know where you will end up?
You will be stuck in black and white ghettos.
Council estates filled with the ignorant and lost.
Council estates are all over the place.
London,Birmingham,Cardiff,Belfast and other parts of the UK.
Filled with those trapped by a lack of education and ambition.
Lack of opportunity does play its part.
But too many use that as an excuse for stagnating.
If you don't think it,then you will never achieve it.
If you want to achieve, then doors will be opened to you.
The Welfare State shows the state were in.
Its an insight into people's state of mind.
For some its a temporary situation.
A stop gap whilst they get on their feet.
others treat it as a way of life.
Happily waiting for their fortnightly handout.
They have a ghetto state of mind.

What a powerful piece you have written here... It does give the reader a heavy heart to read, and its an eye opening poem... there are several youth and adults who resort to a ghetto state of mind and way of life.. In my feelings, they need to belong, its like a lost world of sorts... truly a powerful read!

Nice, very nice! Sadly, today's youth are becoming victims of ignorance, and it's spreading like an epidemic across the world.

Hi.Thanks for the comment.Unfortunetly it seems that amongst the working classes and urban youth, that seems to be the case. They are not all like that though which is good.
