Cellar

by Thomas   Sep 21, 2012

I walk down the stairs
into the dusty cellar
Leaving the sun filled rooms
with their cozy chairs
and heartwarming decorations
Down the darkness I go
Knowing what lies beneath
but still surprised to see and feel it
There they lay,
great hairy beasts with ruby red eyes
Heavily breathing, their noses are producing steam
Held back by the heavy chains I've given them
Howling and lunging towards me
Trying to catch and destroy me
Hurt me they can not but silence them I can not
For their howls go far beyond these cellar walls

It's hard to visit the dark corners of my mind

It's hard to write a poem about the mind I know but I like the fact that you have given animation to it....I really would have liked to hear more....

This just seemed a little tame to me....I want to hear teeth gnashing....the chains being strained to breaking point...etc...do you know what I'm saying? I loved that you had a formed character in this piece....I'd work on that some more if I were you....this is a poem that could be without limitation if you let your imagination loose I feel....
