What is my purpose then?

by Masked metaphor   Sep 27, 2012

What is my purpose then?
Is it to live or die, to betray, to heart break?
Is it to continue to create pain,
to those whom love has turned to hate?
Was my life's direction to disobey?
To tumble and turn in a tumble weed of mistakes, rolling uncontrollably out of sanity's range.

What is my purpose then?
Is it to die alone?
To always be depressed and forlorn?
To hide in the shadows of the unknown,
to remain haunted by the regrets passed on.

What is my purpose then?
Was I always meant to be this weak?
in a battle where survival is not for the meek.
Where you hunger for acceptance,
a pain you can never eat...
Was it all I was ever meant to be?

What is my purpose then?
Was I created to be walked on?
Born in a world so fake and fallen.
To be led to my own slaughter...

What is my purpose then?
Was I always meant to be on this path?
In the valleys of tears or angers aftermath?
Where I grow tired of living my life to please you.
A place where my heart continually stops day by day,
an image hidden yet true...

What is my purpose then?
Was I born to be led?
To be raised, dressed, educated and fed.
To have not my own mind but your own instead.
To always be manipulated by endless lies and dread.

What is my purpose then?
Was I always meant to be so blind?
Like walking in the darkness without a guide.
Will I ever find the light?
Or is my purpose to continue to walk through the deathly gallows in my mind?

Wow. So many emotions run in these piece. The way you asked questions give the poem an extra boost. It's like there were s lot of ideas running through your mind. I like your lay out and structure of this piece. It allows the reader enough time to take in what you're trying to say. Very well put together write :-)

    5/5 first of all!
Really powerful, you've captured the reader in a question of their own purpose, I enjoy the repetition of "What is my purpose then?" on each new line it grips the reader and helps them see what you are trying to figure out, how you feel what exactly your soul is telling you.
It's really vivid and the emotions surrounding this piece are so strong, I can't express how much this poem means to me, you've let us deep into your emotions and mind allow us to feel what you feel.
Stay strong, keep that head up!

I think this is definitely a poem everyone can relate to at some point of their lives - why are we here? What's the point? Especially when things don't go well for us, it's hard to imagine that a bad time is worthwhile. But every bad time leads to a good - every wrong turn turns into the right path if we look hard enough for it. Sometimes our purpose is clear, sometimes it isn't. It's about the journey trying to figure out who you are and what you want in life.

Wow sorry for the rambles.. the poem definitely made me think :)
