Lady of the Night

by Maple Tree   Oct 21, 2012

The lady with eight fingers
webs gauze around dangling
dew drops, within palms of shiny
hands, they comfort.

Protection is desired
in the still of night,
for restless invaders
flock like demons,
waiting to invade
a tree which stands
alone.

She is a dancer for the moon,
an elegant widow
with fangs, a spinster,
weaving blanketed
clouds around the mighty.

Her glorious nature is
to protect the house
which grants us life,
I am in awe of her
strength.

Spider queen of grace,
hunters, seeking to destroy
our fortress is safe.

Note: My view of the widow spider
and her role on keeping the
trees safe from harm.

** the last stanza is a haiku.

Thank you Flower, Tara and Cara :-)

Actually Cara, I am talking about a spider, but also I incorporate deeper messages within my nature pieces as well.. so Your interpretation and feelings are also similar to mine... thank you :-)

I find it uncanny how I can KNOW that you are writing about creatures and comforts of nature, but your metaphors take me somewhere else completely.

I love your writing, and this piece is no different.

I understand this is about the widow spider but I can relate to this stanza so well. =/

    Beautiful, Andrea!
