The Bird Cage (Chained Senryu)

by Maple Tree   Jan 1, 2013

Canary feathers
scattered in rage of sorrow,
caged tomb stands alone.

Marigold angels
hum tunes of innocent tears,
mourning the lost ones.

Winged ashes crumble
in front of cowardly eyes,
imprisoned by fear.

They fly in spirit
ghostly hallucinations,
the door has opened.

Maple this is so very sad and catpturing at the same time.

    Canary feathers
    scattered in rage of sorrow,
    caged tomb stands alone.

    - the loneliness described here is so powerful and the image of feathrs represents innocence to me, and so the contrast here with them scattered and detatched from their home is very sad but like i said, powerful.

    Marigold angels
    hum tunes of innocent tears,
    mourning the lost ones.

    - the sadness continues here but it has a hint of beauty here with the marigold angels, even angels cry and this stanza really touches me right now.

    Winged ashes crumble
    in front of cowardly eyes,
    imprisoned by fear.

    - ok , so this is my favourite senryu in the poem because you can imagine how much it strikes me. I relate this whole part to a victim who is hurt and alone and their innocent wings have been burnt with the evilness. so sad yet you have worded it so creatively.

    They fly in spirit
    ghostly hallucinations,
    the door has opened.

    - strong way to end the poem Maple, your pain here is very moving and we can all relate to some part of these words. The emotion shouts clear as to where your head was when writing this and I just want to send you massive hugs and say keep writing it all out xx
