Mirror of Erised

by Lyssi Lori   Jan 5, 2013

There once was a witch, who awoke every day, the same,
And the first object she laid her eyes on was the object she became.
Her transformation was stunning, leaving most lost for words,
It was a shame to see someone so precious become so absurd.
Her skin became smooth, her rosy cheeks turned cold,
Her once beautiful alignment now turned to gold.
Never wanting to be herself, she felt so diseased,
But now she could reflect others as much as she pleased.
Her once sparkling eyes became very clear,
There she was, merely a mirror.
Now her reflection was different, more like a big screened tv,
But when you looked into her, you would see what you wanted to see.
She was no ordinary mirror; she could only reflect others' desire.
Poor girls dressed in rags would look stunning in their new attire.
Bookworms would see themselves winning the Nobel Peace Prize,
Chunky people would gasp at their new figure and small size.
Squibs would look and see themselves casting marvelous spells,
Broken hearted people would glance and see wedding bells.
But instead of achieving the dreams, they admired their reflections for days,
Days turned into months, months into years, and they ended up rotting to their dismay.
This mirror was a cursed; it could only reflect one's deepest aspiration,
People only sought her when they were in profound desperation.
She repeatedly relived her last moments as a witch whenever someone came and viewed,
Unable to share that their wishes could become true if they stopped dreaming and pursued.
The morals is:
Everyone can dream. It's up to you to make your dreams come true,
Love who you are and keep chugging through.
Tomorrow never finds you, but it's always on its way;
If you don't start chasing after it, you'll waste your life away.

How this has not been commented on uptil now is beyond me as it perfectly inspiring and the morals are completely true. We should learn to love ourselves before anyone else can.
